Looking for the best pool in Destin? Most people come to Destin primarily for the beautiful beaches but having a nice pool where you stay is also be a major bonus.
I love fabulous and unique swimming pools and it’s a big factor for me when planning a vacation so that’s why I wrote this post to showcase the best pools in the Destin area.
I’ve particularly highlighted pools with features such as lazy rivers, waterfalls, tropical landscaping, good views, awesome pool bars, kids splash areas, and other unique or extra features.
Pools are a safer option for swimming on days when the Gulf of Mexico is too rough to safely enjoy it. It’s also a nice alternative to the beach on hot days when you might prefer to relax in the shade of a palm tree or umbrella closer to your room.
For the purposes of this article I’ve included Okaloosa Island pools when considering the best pools in Destin.
Okaloosa Island is the stretch of beach that connects Destin to Fort Walton Beach by two bridges on either side and they have some of the best pools in our area.
Many people consider Okaloosa Island to be part of Destin although it is technically Fort Walton Beach. I have included Miramar Beach and Sandestin pools in this article for the same reasons.
Below are what I would consider the best pools in the Destin area in no particular order. These pools all made the list for different reasons so the best one for you will depend on whether you are traveling with kids and what area of town you prefer.
1. Waterscape Beachfront Resort Pool and Lazy River
Waterscape Resort on Okaloosa Island is a gulf front resort with everything you could want in a pool and more. This is especially true if you are traveling with children as there are a lot of features perfect to keep the kids entertained.
The Waterscape Pool area is a beautifully landscaped, multi-level courtyard featuring a zero entry lagoon pool with an Olympic swimming lane, a lazy river, and 2 hot tubs all surrounded by loungers and tables with chairs. There is also a children’s splash pad and play area.
Waterscape is one of the largest pools in the Destin area and the one offering the most in water-park like features including a lily-pad obstacle course and several waterfalls. Many of the rooms have a view that includes both the pool and beach.
The children’s splash area has spray gadgets, a slide and plenty of seating around it for parents.
From the pool area you can walk right out to the beach and enjoy the beautiful water of the Gulf of Mexico.
The beach at Waterscape Resort is located just a short distance from everything at The Boardwalk, including the Okaloosa Island fishing pier.
It’s an easy walk along the water’s edge to get to those spots, making Waterscape an even more attractive option if you want everything in one place.
Is the Pool at Waterscape Heated?
The large pool and lazy river at Waterscape are not heated in winter but they do heat the upper level courtyard pool so that one is comfortable to swim in year-round.
The non-heated pools will usually feel comfortable for swimming from about April through October–sometimes earlier or later depending on the weather.
Hot Tubs at Waterscape Resort
The Waterscape Resort pool deck has two hot tubs. One is round and the other is a slightly larger square one. Both are located on the main pool level.
Booking at Waterscape Resort
If you are interested in staying at Waterscape, my friend Danica owns and/or manages 25 units there. She is an amazing person and truly cares about the experience of her guests.
Normally I would hesitate to recommend people because it could come back on me badly if it doesn’t go well, but she goes above and beyond for her guests with every detail and I’m happy to recommend renting from her with 100% confidence.
The website for her units where you can reserve and also look at more photos and even see a 3D tour of the property is RentWaterscape.com. Tell her Sarah from The Good Life Destin sent you and she will take extra good care of you!
2. Destin West Beach and Bay Resort Pool and Lazy River
The Destin West Resort is another resort with one of the best pools in the Destin area and it’s also on Okaloosa Island. Destin West is split by Highway 98 with half of the resort on the bay and the other half on the beach.
On the bay side of Destin West Resort, there is a zero-entry pool leading into a 700 foot tropically landscaped, lazy river.
There is a pool with a waterfall in the center of the lazy river as well as two quieter pools tucked away in more private lush landscaping closer to the bay. This is all surrounded by charcoal grills, picnic tables, and plenty of grassy areas to play and relax.
The lazy river at waterscape is beautifully landscaped with shrubs and palm trees. It’s a great spot for floating around and relaxing. The
On the beach side of Destin West Resort, there is a 5000 square foot pool, a smaller pool, hot tub, and a children’s play and splash area.
When you stay at Destin West Resort, you have access to both pools on the property regardless of which side you are staying on. They are connected by a sky bridge that crosses over Highway 98.
Staying at Destin West also gives you access to the pool at the Island Resort next door (see the section below) but the reverse is not true. Island Resort guests do not have access to Destin West pools or amenities.
Is the Destin West Pool Heated?
There are 4 heated pools at Destin West Resort. The pool with a waterfall in the center of the lazy river, the two smaller pools on the bay, and the smaller pool on the beach side of the resort are all heated to be comfortable for swimming year-round.
The lazy river, zero entry pool, and large beach pool at Destin West are not heated. The non-heated pools will usually feel comfortable for swimming from about April through October–sometimes earlier or later depending on the weather.
Hot Tubs at Destin West Resort
Destin West Resort has two large hot tubs on the bay side of the property inside the lazy river area and also a hot tub near the large pool on the beach side.
3. The Island Hotel Pool and Grotto Swim-Up Pool Bar
Okaloosa Island hotels and resorts clearly know what a pool should be because they hold yet another spot on my list with the Island hotel.
The Island hotel has 2 pool areas but they get this spot on the list of best pools in Destin thanks to the unique features of their Polynesian style grotto pool.
The Grotto Pool at the Island features a cascading waterfall with the only swim-up bar in Northwest Florida which can be found hidden away in a cave under the rocks of the waterfall.
The other unique feature I love about the Island pool is that from some of the ground floor pool view rooms, you can jump right into the water from your private patio.
You can book one of those ground floor pool patio rooms although they do cost a bit more than a regular pool view room.
Many people might prefer a beach view, but the idea of jumping in the pool from my room patio and swimming under the bridge and through the waterfall into the cave to the swim-up grotto bar just sounds too fun to resist.
The grotto pool bar at the Island is only open during the busier times of summer, spring break and some fall months. Check with the front desk about operating days/times when you book your stay.
The Island also has another separate pool area with a landscaped courtyard and plenty of seating and covered tables. They also have a kids splash and play area, a snack bar, and even a coffee food truck operating seasonally.
Is the Island Resort Pool Heated?
The grotto pool with the waterfall and swim-up bar at the Island are not heated however the other outdoor pool is heated making it comfortable for swimming all year. The non-heated pool will usually feel comfortable for swimming from about April through October–sometimes earlier or later depending on the weather.
Hot Tubs at the Island Resort
The Island Resort has one hot tub near the grotto pool.
4. Emerald Grande Resort Harbor View Pool
The Emerald Grande Resort is a new addition to the list in 2022 after recently completing a long construction project on their pool deck. They were already a top contender as one of the best pools in Destin but now that the construction walls are down it’s a clear choice for this list.
Emerald Grande resort has a zero-entry outdoor pool with panoramic views of Destin Harbor from the pool deck. There is also a smaller indoor pool inside the glass doors near the main pool.
There are loungers, a pool bar, tables with chairs, and even a fire pit to enjoy on the Emerald Grande pool deck.
The pool deck at Emerald Grande has amazing elevated views of Harborwalk Village, the beaches of Norriego Point, and the Destin Bridge with Crab Island on the other side.
This is a great spot for watching fishing boats, dolphin tours, water taxis, and other boats coming and going to the Gulf of Mexico and Crab Island all day and evening.
Only Emerald Grande guests can use the pools and hots tubs there but you can still enjoy the view from the pool deck by going to happy hour at the Grande Vista bar. More about that here: The Best Happy Hours in Destin
Is the Emerald Grande Pool Heated?
The Emerald Grande main pool is heated so it’s comfortable to swim outside all year. I have stayed at Emerald Grande during a cold snap in January and still felt it warm enough to swim in the pool at night even though the air temperature was very chilly.
Hot Tubs at Emerald Grande
The Hot Tubs at Emerald Grande deserve special mention for being the absolute best ones in the area now that the construction is finished on the main one.
The main hot tub is located next to the pool and it is huge and zero-entry. This was a fantastic makeover that was done this year.
In addition to the main hot tub, Emerald Grande also has a large adults-only hot tub. This is hugely appreciated by people like me who find it hard to relax in a hot tub with kids playing in it.
The best thing about the adults-only hot tub at Emerald Grande is it’s location tucked away around the side of the building on the sunset deck, removed from the noise and activity of the main pool. This hot tub also has Destin Harbor views and it’s a great spot for sunset.
5. The Henderson Beach Resort Family and Adult Pool
The Henderson Beach Resort pool in Destin also easily makes the list of best pools in Destin with 2 outdoor salt water pools to enjoy. One pool is a large family pool and the other is an adults only pool.
The large family pool area features a zero entry option, a lazy river, a bridge walkover, a splash pad area, and an open-air pool bar.
The kids splash pad area is gated making it easier for young children to safely enjoy.
The pool bar is just steps from the pool, completing the perfect atmosphere of this luxury resort pool. The Henderson has the largest pool bar that I’ve seen in the Destin area.
The other pool is adults only, located near the main pool but in a separate enclosed area for the ultimate relaxation. This is one of the only adults-only pool in the area.
At night, the Henderson pool is beautifully lit up with colored lights and tiki torches. There is also a fire pit nearby to enjoy.
The Henderson is not directly on the beach but it’s an easy walk across a quiet dead end street to get to the private access located beside their sister property Henderson Park Inn Bed and Breakfast.
6. The Palms of Destin Lagoon Pool
The Palms Resort of Destin also deserves a mention. At 11,000 square feet, this zero-entry pool is one of the largest in Destin and features beautiful tropical landscaping and walking bridges over the water.
The Destin Palms pool area also has a separate heated pool as well as a hot tub and a children’s splash area. The Palms Resort is located across highway 98 from the beach, but they do have a free shuttle to get there.
The Destin Palms Resort is ideally located in the heart of Destin only a few miles east of Harborwalk Village and a few miles west of Destin Commons (the main shopping area of Destin). This area is surrounded by restaurants and grocery stores so it will be a short drive to anything you need.
Is the Palms Resort Pool Heated?
Yes, surprisingly the pool at the Palms Resort is heated so it is comfortable to swim all year. It’s not very common to find a pool of this size heated so it’s a great perk for a winter stay.
Hot Tubs at the Palms Resort
There is one large hot tub at the Palms Resort in Destin.
7. Hotel Effie Rooftop Pool and Bar
In early February of 2021, Hotel Effie in Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort opened with the only rooftop pool in our area making it an easy contender for the list of best pools in Destin.
Ara Rooftop Pool & Lounge has stunning views of Choctawhatchee Bay, the Baytowne Marina, and the Gulf of Mexico in the distance.
This unique pool has elegant upscale décor complete with cabanas, loungers and a giant chess set on the lawn area. It’s a great spot for sunset.
Ara is the pool bar on the rooftop offering fine wine, hand-crafted cocktails and an original menu of small plate offerings. The Hotel Effie Rooftop Pool and Bar is also sure to be a popular spot for weddings and events.
Is the Hotel Effie Rooftop Pool Heated?
Yes, the Hotel Effie Rooftop Pool is heated making it comfortable for swimming all year. will usually start feeling comfortable for swimming in April–sometimes sooner or later depending on the weather.
Hot Tubs at Hotel Effie
Hotel Effie does not have a hot tub but the pool is heated.
8. Silver Shells Beach Resort and Spa Gulf Front Pool
I’m also including Silver Shells beach resort pool as one of the best pools in Destin since it’s 7500 square foot lagoon style pool is so ideally situated just steps from the Gulf of Mexico.
Between the pool and the beach is a beautifully landscaped public park area as well as a picture perfect tiki bar with cold drinks and beautiful beach views.
Silver Shells also has a kids pool, a whirlpool hot tub, a waterfall, as well as an indoor/outdoor lap pool in their spa area.
Silver Shells is located right next to Henderson Beach State Park so it’s a great area for walks on the beach and exploring the most undeveloped beaches in Destin.
Is the Silver Shells Pool Heated?
The large lagoon style pool at Silver Shells resort is not heated however, the smaller indoor/outdoor pool is heated making it comfortable for swimming all year. The lagoon pool will usually start feeling comfortable for swimming in April–sometimes sooner or later depending on the weather.
Hot Tubs at Silver Shells Beach Resort
Silver Shells has an indoor hot tub as well as a larger outdoor hot tub.
9. Luau Sandestin Saltwater Lagoon Pool
The Luau Sandestin pool is another popular choice for people who prioritize a pool on their vacation. The Luau towers are not directly on the beach but they are on the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort property which has private beach access for their guests about 300 yards away.
The Luau Sandestin pool a 4000 square foot saltwater pool with a swim-behind waterfall. I’m including it because it’s one of the only saltwater pools in the area and some people have a bad reaction to chlorine. Saltwater pools are healthier and don’t dry out your hair and skin. The swim behind waterfall is fun too!
The Luau pool is located on Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort but the pool here can only be used by guests staying at the Luau towers. Staying at Luau does give you access to some other pools on Sandestin Resort property though so that is another reason I’ve included it here.
When you stay at the Luau you can also use the pool at the Bayside at Sandestin building with is directly overlooking the bay. Another pool you can use is there new solar-heated lap pool located in the center of the resort property. There is also a beachfront pool you will have access to as well. So that’s 4 pools for one!
Is the Luau Pool Heated?
The Luau pool is seasonally heated making it comfortable for swimming all year.
Hot Tub at Luau Sandestin
Luau has a hot tub on their pool deck for guests to enjoy.
I hope this list gives you a few options to consider when booking your Destin vacation if a pool is at the top of your priority list. You might also enjoy my post of packing essentials while you prepare for your trip: Ultimate Destin Beach Packing List

This is a great post. Having a nice pool is a nice feature while at the beach. I own units at Waterscape and their pools is what made us love the resort.
The pool at Waterscape is really something. Definitely an added bonus of staying there!
Are the pools for hotel guests only? We are staying in a beach house and would like to tour these gorgeous pools but not sure if that is allowed without being a registered guest.
Yes, unfortunately all the pools listed here are for guests only
Are any of these pools heated in late March?
Hi Katie! Most of them are usually heated in March and April!
I booked with Sugar Sands Vacation Rentals and I have been asking to cancel my reservation in April. I know that these are unusual times and I am asking for a refund because we can’t come because of travel restrictions. Tina Hart is not answering my emails and I have let her know that our travel with take us through New York but she doesn’t seem to care. Please advise me of some action that I can take to perhaps get my money back during this time.
I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you were able to get your money back considering a ban was put in place on vacation rentals through April 30th. I have heard stories of people not being able to receive refunds and I wish I had a solution for them. I hope she reconsidered and that you can come another time.
Here we get to know about the 5 best resort pools in destin florida information in detail. It helps us to decide that which one is best among its types. I enjoyed reading this article and would suggest others it as well. Thank you for this article! This is really very informative for us.
Do any of the hotels with lazy rivers have day passes?
I think the Holiday Inn on Okaloosa Island might have a day pass. They have a lazy river but it’s not as large as these. The Island hotel has a day pass but no lazy river. Waterscape and Destin West do not have day passes as far as I know.
I just wanted to say that this post was super helpful! We couldn’t find a place at any of the resorts we wanted but that’s not your fault – we’re booking prime season! But it was still really helpful to know which resorts had more than just a basic pool since I have a toddler who naps and my husband and older son like to enjoy the amenities while he’s napping. So thank you!
I am glad you found it helpful and hope you can get a spot at one of these places in the future. Thank you for the comment!
Hi. Are any of these resorts time share resorts?
I’m planning a trip from October 8-12 this year. Will the pool be to cold to swim in? I’m from Texas. Thanks.
The pools will be plenty warm in October!
I am not sure if any of them are time shares. Not that I know of
Thanks for this detailed list! So useful!
I’m glad!
I’m looking for a pool that has a rock or waterfall where you can climb up there and then jump from there into the deep end ,
I have not seen anything like that around here but it sounds like it would be really fun!
Hello, my husband and I would love to find a great place to spend our 30th anniversary at. He enjoys adult only everything! I’ve found Henderson to have an adult only pool but I’ve been searching for more as well as adult only resorts. We want to come the first weekend in September in hopes to avoid large family crowds (lots of children). What are your suggestions in or near Destin Florida?
Look at the Henderson Beach Inn Bed and Breakfast (on the beach across from the Henderson Resort). It’s a very special place and the entire place is adults only. It’s a bit pricey but a lot is included and it’s right on the beach and just a beautiful charming place. You still have access to the Henderson Resort Pools when staying at the Inn
Hi there, does anyone know of a 5 star resort to stay at in destin Florida that allow 10lbs.doggie?
Hotel Effie and the Henderson Resort both allow dogs!
Hello! Do you believe Destin West still has heated pools? We asked a condo owner via VRBO and they said they have no heated pools or indoor pools. It was a travel company versus an individual so maybe they were just confused? We would be traveling mid October for fall break and we’d like at least a heated option just in case.
The big pool at Destin West and lazy river is not heated but they have a smaller outdoor pool that is heated year-round. It’s not the big one though. Unheated pools are usually still pretty comfortable in mid-October though
Does Destin West Beach and Bay Resort have access to the Grotto pool across the steet?
They used to but unfortunately I believed they have changed it now.
I have a question- when is a good time to book? I just checked a few units and it seems there is no availability for May 2024…. I wonder if maybe they haven’t opened their booking calendars that far into the future?
Hello, thanks for the great information! We live in Gulf Shores, AL and love doing one-nighters at different hotels around the area. I was curious which of these pool options features full service with food and drink options poolside with a server. Maybe this would be another point to make on your website, people love knowing that food and drinks are available. Last question of all the 10 locations listed, which is the nicest with the best pool? Thanks so much!
Most places should be able to book about 9 months in advance
I believe Hotel Effie offers this and it’s a beautiful spot. It’s also a hotel so you won’t have the cleaning fee on a 1-night stay like the condos do. I will research more into your question though to make sure!
We are planning avacation here in july! we have never gone on vacation, who should i go through for descent prices for one of these resorts?
i have a big family 4 adults and 5 kids
My friend Danica has a lot of units at Waterscape Resort. Her info is in the post
