June 2026 in Destin: Things to Do and Local Tips

Are you planning to visit Destin, Miramar Beach, or Okaloosa Island in June 2026? This post covers what to expect with weather, crowds, sunsets, activities, and upcoming events.

In my article about the best times to visit Destin, I ranked June as #3, so it’s pretty high on my list, outranked only by October and May.

June is when it really feels like summer has fully arrived. May warms things up with rising temps and growing crowds, but by June, Destin is in full summer mode and it stays busy through early August.

I should mention that this is a rare opinion among locals. A lot of locals would rank June and July near the bottom because of the traffic and crowds (unless their work depends on summer tourism).

That being said, I wrote my “Best Times to Visit Destin” article quite a while ago, and I’ll admit my personal favorites have shifted a little over the years. Maybe Destin has gotten busier, maybe I’m less tolerant of the heat as I get older, or maybe I’ve just learned to appreciate how peaceful winter feels here.

If I were ranking purely for me, November and December would be right at the top these days. But that original list was based on what most visitors want from a Destin vacation, and by that measure, June still deserves its spot near the top.

Even despite the crowds and traffic, I still love summer in Destin, and I always get excited when June rolls around.

The sea oats start blooming again, the water is warm enough for swimming, Crab Island has more clear-water days, summer events and fireworks are in full swing, and Destin Harbor stays busy with boats.

June might seem like it should rank lower because of the heat, humidity, traffic, and crowds, but I still think it’s a great time for a beach vacation in Destin if you can plan around the drawbacks.

By June, the Gulf is usually a comfortable swimming temperature, and the water tends to be pretty consistently clear compared to many other months, unless we get hit with June grass.

June grass is a green, slimy seaweed that sometimes shows up on the beaches in summer. There’s no reliable way to predict June grass, sargassum, or any other seaweed outbreaks. Some years are rough (2022 was especially bad), and other years are barely noticeable.

Also, don’t trust “seaweed forecasts” you see floating around online. If we get seaweed, it’s usually sometime between May and August, but it’s unpredictable. As your trip approaches, check the live beach cams in the Destin area for the most accurate look at current conditions.

Crowd-wise, June is one of the busiest months in Destin, topped only by July, when crowds usually hit their peak because of the July 4th holiday.

There aren’t any major holidays in June, so expect a steady level of crowds without the extra spikes that Memorial Day and July 4th bring.

June Weather in Destin

Average High: 88°
Average Low: 69°
Average Gulf Water Temperature: 82°
Average Rainfall: 6.7 inches

June in Destin is sunny and hot during the day, and it’s usually warm enough in the evenings that you won’t need a sweater. I typically stop grabbing an “evening layer” sometime in May once the summer humidity creeps in, so June is when I finally feel like I can just… leave it at home.

Even though June is hot, it’s usually not as brutal as late summer (especially August and September), when it can feel downright unbearable outside.

June in Destin Summer Beach Storm

June has one of the highest rainfall averages of the year, with only July and August typically higher. Most of the rain comes from afternoon thunderstorms, which can actually feel like a temporary “reset button” for the heat.

June is also the official start of Atlantic hurricane season on the Gulf Coast, but serious tropical activity is much more common later in the season (especially August, September, and October).

Most hurricane and tropical storm activity happens later in the year when Gulf waters are warmer, which creates better conditions for storms to strengthen. A named storm can happen in June, but it’s not very common and usually isn’t something to stress over.

June Sunsets in Destin

The sun won’t rise or set over the Gulf of Mexico in June, which (in my opinion) is one of the biggest drawbacks of summer in Destin.

Because of our south-facing beaches, sunsets and sunrises are only over the water from about October through March. But summer still gives us some of the prettiest skies, thanks to all the dramatic clouds that humidity loves to build.

If you want a true “sunset over the water” in summer, you can find it closer to Panama City Beach (and farther east), where the coastline curves in a way that lines it up better.

June Activities in Destin

In June, all the water sports, tours, and fishing charters are running full speed, and many of them book up early. If there’s something you really want to do, reserve it in advance.

Things like pontoon boat rentals, parasailing, dolphin cruises, Crab Island excursions, and snorkeling trips can be harder to book last-minute once summer crowds are here.

June Fishing in Destin

Fishing charters are at their busiest this month, and red snapper season is a big reason why. Exact dates can change year to year, so if your trip depends on it, check current regulations as your trip gets closer and book early.

It’s especially important to book your Destin fishing trip in advance in June when everyone is excited about the season and ready to get out on the water. Red snapper is one of the most popular catches for visitors because it’s delicious and, honestly, it’s pretty photogenic too.

Luckily, many charter boats adjust schedules in summer and offer more trips per day, so you should still have plenty of options if you plan ahead.

I’ve only been fishing once, and it was on a party boat. Party boats are a popular first-time option because they’re a good introduction to deep-sea fishing at a lower cost. If you want a less crowded experience, try a shared or private trip instead.

Crab Island in June in Destin

Crab Island is a shallow sandbar where boats gather to spend the day in clear, shallow water. It’s known for that “swimming pool” look, but the color can vary quite a bit depending on tides, wind, and time of year.

Crab Island in Destin Florida

Crab Island is only accessible by watercraft (boat, jet ski, kayak, etc.). You can rent your own, or go with a tour company that runs Crab Island excursions.

June and July are the busiest months at Crab Island, thanks to warm swimming temps and peak tourist season. Summer also tends to have more consistently clear water since high tide falls during daylight hours more often than other times of year.

For the best water color, plan your Crab Island visit within about two hours before and after high tide. That’s when the clearer Gulf water is moving in. When the tide is going out, the water is coming from the bay, and it’s usually more of a tea color.

All the Crab Island info can feel confusing at first, so I put everything into one detailed guide (including printable tide charts by month) to make planning easier: Crab Island in Destin: 2026 Ultimate Visitors Guide

June Events in Destin

June is full of events to enjoy, and most of them are family-friendly since summer is peak season for visitors in Destin.

Both Harborwalk Village and The Village of Baytowne Wharf typically run weekly events all summer. I’ve listed the usual summer lineup below (with 2026 notes where things are still being finalized), followed by a few other big events happening in June.

Harborwalk Village June Events 2026

Harborwalk Village usually has a summer series of weekly events that runs from late May through mid-August. They also typically have live music on Saturday nights during this time at the Events Stage from 6:30–9:00pm. As of now, most Harborwalk summer event details for 2026 have not been officially announced, but here’s what we normally see each week.

Fat Tuesday Parade at Harborwalk Village (TBA for 2026)

  • Date: TBA for 2026 (this is usually on Tuesday nights in summer)
  • Time: Typically Concert at 6:30pm | Parade at 8:30pm
  • Cost: FREE

If this returns for 2026, it’s basically Mardi Gras in summer at Harborwalk. Kids (and adults) line the walkways to catch beads and little trinkets as the floats roll through the Village. It’s fun, it’s loud, and yes… you’ll probably find a bead or two in your beach bag later.

This one is usually popular, so it helps to stake out a spot early. Anywhere along the parade route through Harborwalk Village is a good view, from Fishheads on the marina side all the way to the Emerald Grande end.

All American Thursdays and Fireworks at Harborwalk Village

  • Date: Thursdays starting late May and continuing through summer)
  • Time: 6:30–9:00pm with fireworks at 9:00pm
  • Cost: FREE

If Harborwalk runs the same format in 2026, expect a patriotic-themed evening with live entertainment and a fireworks finale (usually around 9:00pm), often followed by a fire-spinning show. In some past summers there has also been an additional Monday night show, but nothing has been announced yet. I’ll update as soon as Harborwalk posts their official schedule.

Okaloosa Island Boardwalk June Events 2026

The Okaloosa Island Boardwalk usually has a summer series of weekly events running from late May through mid-August. It’s a great spot for an easy beach night out with the backdrop of the pier and the Gulf.

  • This event is still TBA for 2026. I will update as soon as they confirm the return of these events.

If it returns, Captain Davy performs his live pirate show on the Al’s Beach Club stage with magic tricks, jokes, songs, and balloon animals. It’s one of those events where kids are fully locked in… and parents quietly appreciate a moment where nobody is asking for a snack.

Movies on the Beach at the Okaloosa Island Boardwalk (TBA for 2026)

Watch the night sky light up over the Gulf of Mexico as fireworks launch from the end of the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier every Wednesday night all summer.

Enjoy dinner with a fireworks view from one of the Boardwalk restaurants, or spread out on the sand to watch the show. If you want to see them up close, walk partway out on the pier.

Other Destin Area Events in June 2026

Summer isn’t usually as packed with big festivals as spring and fall, but late June does bring one of the biggest annual fishing tournaments in the area.

Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Baytowne Marina

ECBMC Weigh ins at Baytowne Marina

The Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic is a world-class sport-fishing tournament timed to coincide with the peak of the Gulf Coast’s blue marlin season. Even if you’re not fishing, the weigh-ins are worth seeing. It’s a full “Destin in summer” scene with crowds, big boats, and plenty going on around the marina.

The night-time weigh-ins held at Baytowne Marina are free and open to the public. Along with the weigh-ins, there are typically vendors, live music, food and drinks, and other activities happening in the marina area.

You can also catch the shotgun start of the tournament from Destin on the first day by walking out to the East Jetties on Holiday Isle.

The boats leave Baytowne Marina around 11:00am to make their way toward the start line, and at noon they take off at once. It’s one of those “only in Destin” things that’s genuinely fun to watch.

You can get to the East Jetties through O’Steen Beach Access on Gulf Shore Drive. You can read more about this beach area and the other public beaches in Destin in my post here: Find your Perfect Beach ~ Guide to the 13 Public Beaches in Destin

Don’t stop at the first set of jetties at O’Steen if you’re trying to see the start line. Keep going until you reach the jetties on the Gulf side. It’s a decent walk through sand, but it’s worth it for the best view.

Here’s a quick time lapse of this walk if you are unsure of how to get there once you reach O’Steen Beach.

You can also see the boats parading toward the start line by walking up on the Destin Bridge.
