Blessing of the Fleet on Destin Harbor is one of the oldest traditions along the Emerald Coast. The 69th annual Blessing of the Fleet in Destin, Florida will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

This post covers a little history behind the event, plus when and where to watch it.

Blessing of the Fleet takes place every year at Destin’s Fishing Fleet Marina, located directly behind Brotula’s Restaurant on Destin Harbor, as part of a week-long celebration known as Destin’s Week of Blessings.
The Fleet Blessing is typically held on a Thursday (unless it’s moved due to storms or rough conditions), and which Thursday it lands on in May depends on when Easter falls.

The purpose of the event is to offer blessings and well wishes for the vessels and the people who make their living from the sea. Over the years, that’s grown to include both fishing charters and local excursion boats.

Several local pastors gather at the dock and bless the boats one by one as they proceed in a line down the harbor, wishing them safe passage and a bountiful season for 2026.
A short worship service happens first under the tent behind Brotula’s, and then the pastors gather together on a barge for the blessing portion of the event.

The boats line up in the harbor and each one is called by name as it comes through to be blessed for safe passage and a good year for captains, crew, and passengers. A fish fry on the dock follows the blessing.
A lot of people think of Destin as a beach destination, but long before visitors came for the white sand and clear water, Destin was built on fishing.
Whether they’re part of a church community or not, a lot of boaters enjoy the tradition and like starting the season with a blessing.

Destin now has one of the largest charter fishing fleets in North America, so a lot has changed since the days of it being a quiet fishing village.
That’s what makes the tradition feel extra meaningful. It’s a reminder that the harbor isn’t just a pretty view, it’s still a working waterfront.

Blessing of the Fleet is a great event even for people who don’t normally go to religious events. It’s one of the only days you’ll see this many boats lined up on the harbor at once, like the whole fleet is patiently waiting its turn for roll call.
The locals show up, the boats show up, and for a few hours Destin feels like “old Destin” again.

Where to Watch Destin’s Blessing of the Fleet
The best place to watch Blessing of the Fleet is from a boat, if you have that option. If you don’t have a friend on the water that day, you can also check with dolphin cruises and tour companies on Destin Harbor to see if any of their trips overlap with the blessing.
If you’re watching from land, walk to the end of the dock behind Brotula’s. At the very end and to the right is where I took many of my photos from, along with the time lapse video in this post a little further down.
There are a few other viewing spots around the docks behind Brotula’s too, so you can walk around and find a place with a clear view of the boats as they pull up to be blessed.

It can get crowded on the dock, so arriving a little early helps. The blessing typically runs for a couple of hours, though, so even if it starts out packed, people tend to filter out and you can usually slide into a better spot after a bit.
In past years, the City of Destin has waived parking fees at the Marler Street lot (directly across the street from Brotula’s at the corner of Marler Street and Highway 98) for this event. Normally the parking fee there is $15.

2020 Update: The 63rd Blessing of the Fleet is planned for Thursday, May 21st, 2020 as a handful of Destin Clergy ask God’s blessings on vessels that make their living on the sea. This year, for the safety of all, only the Blessing of the Boats will occur starting at 4:00pm (no Captain’s Service or Fish Fry). Attendees are encouraged to dine at the local restaurants (if open by then.) Welcome all to this Destin Tradition, if gathering is permitted. The Lord be with you!
Thank you for that information. I have updated the post with the changes. Looking forward to the boat blessing, thank you!
Would love to see live beach cam from Crystal Beach?? Unless I’m not searching correctly??
Hi Stephanie, the closest live beach camera to Crystal Beach would be Henderson Park Inn. It’s in my webcam post: https://thegoodlifedestin.com/destin-beach-cameras/
